Doing Great

Well I am almost 2 weeks old. Life is great. I am very happy and I hardly ever cry. Today Leah was here and I am 7 pounds 15 ounces and she thinks I am doing great. I am so much happier at home than I was in the hospital. The nurses there would not stop swaddling me in warm blankets, it drove me nuts, here I can kick off those darn blankets in no time. Mum is no longer giving me bottles I can get all I need straight from her. I don't like to sleep by myself at night, mum hates that and is trying very hard to fix that. I am meeting lots of people, Auntie Cat and Linda, Uncle Tim and Brent and cousins Kate, Keifor and Taylor. Yesterday I took my first trip to the beach, it was very hot, I just snoozed in the shade all day. Mum is doing good, she is still weak and finds even a small amount of exercise, such as getting the laundry from downstairs gets her heart racing. They will check her blood levels in two weeks. This is frustrating for her because otherwise she feels great and would like to get active again especially walks with me. Here are some new photos that Auntie Cat took.

I am here!

I finally arrived Wednesday June 18th. My warm pool of water broke around 4:30pm on Wednesday. Mum phoned Dad and told him t0 meet her at the hospital. Contractions started right away but ok until 5:15 when they started to get hard and Brad and Leah arrived at the hospital. Leah checked and mum was 4 cm dilated so Mum decided to go in the shower to help deal with the contractions. While in there they got really strong and took Mum by surprise, she thought they would be more like cramps she didn't know what she wanted, back pressure, sit, stand, barf? She was very worried and had no idea how long this would go on for. She asked Leah for drugs and Leah said she should wait until she was closer to 6cm. Mum got out of the shower and they checked and she was 9cm dilated already, it had only been an hour, too late for drugs!!(Damn!) A couple of contractions later and Mum started to push, and holly cow she screamed at the top of her lungs. I feel sorry for the other people in the hospital. Once she knew how to push me out I came out quickly at 6:49 pm, Mum was surprised she thought the earlier contractions were worse than when I came out. That was when everyone found out I was a boy and my name would be Callum. Dad was really quiet during my arrival which was probably for the best I don't think Mum would have wanted to listen to anything he said. Mum was feeling great, I didn't cause her to have any stitches. Dad cut the cord and then took me to meet Nanna and Grandpa Proud.

That's when things started to go down hill for Mum. Leah was waiting for the placenta to come out but it wouldn't. They tried all sorts of thing but it wouldn't come out, lots of bloods clots were coming out. Leah had to phone doctor who came and he tried to get it out. This was very painful for Mum and when they started to talk about getting an operating room ready she was very worried, but Dr. Poew finally got it out. Mum was taken to another room where I finally got my first meal. I was very happy but Mum was having some major bleeding that wouldn't stop. The doctors in Creston decided she should go to Nelson a bigger hospital with an obstetrician. Mum was loaded into an ambulance with Leah and I was with Dad who was supposed to follow in our jeep. Dad was a little anxious, here he was with a six hour old baby and he has to drive for an hour and a half in the middle of the night with me by himself. I gave him a break and slept the whole way there. Mum was pretty out of it they had given her lots of drugs and she had lost lots of blood, luckily though by the time they arrived it had slowed and she didn't need have an operation. We stayed in Nelson for two days. I am a little lazy and don't like to work too hard for food so Mum has been pumping some and giving me a bottle, she hopes that when her milk comes in and it is easier for me to eat she won't need to. Mum in doing ok her blood level is very low still so she feels very weak and can only move around so much at a time so she doesn't pass out. My favourite thing to do is sleep on Dad. Anyways, I have food to drink, and poop to poop so I need to go, keep checking back to see how things are going.

Mum's lost her patience with Dad and Me!

Notice Mum is not smiling

So I will arrive any day now, for real this time because my due date is only 9 days away. What does Dad decide to do? start the kitchen remodel! Now Mum didn't want to argue because she has waited for this for two years but really couldn't this have been done a little earlier? So Mum and Dad ripped out the closests that used to separate the living room and kitchen, which was fine, but today Dad is really grumpy because there is dry wall dust covering everything! well duh what did he think was going to happen? Idiot!! He also finally decided to order the new windows yesterday so in about two weeks we will have another major disaster. My room is a mess again because Dad had to get into the attic and all the stuff that was stored in the access to the attic is in my room. After thinking about it, now Mum thinks maybe she shouldn't have allowed the demolition, the picture with the painting tape shows that when Dad first moved in over two years ago he painted, but never got to to the second coat, so she is worried that she will be living with the current state of the kitchen for a really long time.

Mum is also a little angry at me. She is very uncomfortable and willing to try anything to nudge me along. She has even started walking which she hasn't done for a really long time because it is too sad without Kita especially the mountain trail behind the house, but it is a really good uphill climb. Auntie Cat will be really mad at me if I don't come after spending all that time waiting for me in Vancouver. They will not medically induce me until 41 weeks and 3 days which is after she leaves. Mum is going to try all the non medical ways to try to urge me along. Don't tell Dad though he thinks that Mum shouldn't do anything. That's really easy for him to say, his life has not changed, he doesn't have to carry a bowling ball between his legs, never ending sore back and gets to drink all the beers he wants. Mum is only going to try what the midwife suggests, if I am ready it might give me a nudge and if I am not then no harm will be done. It is one of those matters that she could careless about what Dad thinks, she will do it regardless. There are still constant contractions which are really annoying, they just won't progress into stronger ones that will push me along.

Mum is smiling thinking she will get revenge in a couple weeks when we are chillin in the white sand on the shore of Kootenay lake while Dad is back at the house in 30 degree weather installing the windows!

See you soon,

36 weeks

I decided I wanted to be born in Creston so I have hung on until now. Mum is going a little crazy, Leah says I will probably arrive very soon, but Mum has heard this for six weeks now so she is doesn't really believe it. At 36 weeks there is no more worry about me having any problems. I am still getting squeezed a lot enough to get mum back to hospital again, but they stopped. I have positioned myself as low as I can without going through that very tight space, which I am just not ready to go through yet. Yes that is a picture of my dad, thank god that look didn't last, he is now back to normal, shaved face and head. Mum is allowed to resume normal activities and she really enjoyed going swimming yesterday, it was sunny and it really helped stretch out her sore back. Hopefully my next post with have my beautiful pictures on it and not my crazy dad and fat mum!
